The Magnet designation is awarded by the American Nursing Credentialing Center (ANCC) Magnet Recognition Program only if a healthcare organization has demonstrated that it provides an environment of excellence for nursing practice and patient care. Research reflects that Magnet hospitals have better patient outcomes and higher levels of patient and nurse satisfaction than do non-Magnet hospitals.
This designation is achieved after successfully completing a rigorous process in which a team of professionals with experience in quality indicators, nursing administration, and nursing care evaluates a hospital’s nursing services, clinical outcomes, and patient care delivery. To earn Magnet Status, the organization must excel in each of the following 14 Forces of Magnetism.
14 Forces of Magnetism
- Quality of Nursing Leadership
- Organizational Structure
